Drawings
Drawing is central to the activity of making the paintings and they fall into two groups or catagories. There are the drawings I make which are a direct source for the paintings - figure studies and compositional explorations - then there are the 'long distance' observational drawings where the aim is to be as objective as possible about the spaces and the images I'm observing. Although these drawings are made for no other reason than trying to witness the play of light across forms in space, the experience involved in their making underpins the larger studio paintings.
